School-Based Behavioral Health Diversion: Which Youth and What Services? - The Responder Model Part 3 of 4
The third webinar in this series of four provides strategies for identifying youth who are both at risk of juvenile justice system referral from the school setting and who may have behavioral health needs. On this webinar, experts will discuss the most effective ways to identify these youth and strategies to connect them to behavioral health services instead of sending them into the juvenile justice system. This webinar is an appropriate learning opportunity for professionals in a variety of settings, including schools, community behavioral health services, law enforcement, child welfare, and juvenile justice. Faculty will include:
Dr. Katie Eklund (Assistant Professor in the School Psychology Program at the University of Arizona) – Dr. Eklund will inform participants about how to identify youth with potential behavioral health needs in the school setting, including the use of screening instruments and teacher nomination processes.
Jacqui Greene, esq., (Senior Associate at the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice) – Ms. Greene will be discussing approaches to identify youth who are at risk of referral to the juvenile justice system in the school setting.
Dr. Nancy Lever (Associate Professor in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Co-Director of the Center for School Mental Health) – Dr. Lever will highlight successful models for ensuring that students have access to behavioral health services in school diversion programs.
Dr. Isaiah Pickens (Assistant Director for Service Systems at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress) – Dr. Pickens will discuss the importance of understanding the impact of trauma on student’s behavior and options for identifying traumatic stress responses in the classroom.
