Parent-to-Parent Guide: Restorative Justice in Chicago Public Schools
Our children attend Chicago Public Schools, and in 2003 we came together —African-American and Latino parents and grandparents—around shared experiences and concerns. Our schools have one of the highest rates of suspension in the nation, and African-American and Latino children are disproportionately affected by suspension, expulsion and arrest! Too many of us had experienced situations in which our children were disciplined harshly, in ways that didn’t make sense to us. How are our children supposed to learn if they are suspended and sent home?
