TheColorado School Discipline Report Card

Across Colorado and the country, there is more attention on school discipline issues and the "school-to-prison pipeline" than ever before. The overuse of out-of-school suspensions, expulsions, police tickets, and school-based arrests – particularly for Students of Color – has triggered alarm, and more importantly, shifts in policy and practice. There is widespread recognition that the educational, developmental, familial, and fiscal harms of harsh disciplinary practices outweigh
their benefits in almost every instance. States, districts, and individual schools are adjusting their approaches accordingly.
